Together with graphic designer Peter Gates we are developing a fresh new website. It's an uphill tusk. In the meantime please subscribe to our mailing list (see that link in the menu above?) and we'll let you know when the new site is ready.
Elephant marched through North London the late 70's and into the 80's and had two incarnations.
Elephant I - The first incarnation
assembled by me primarily as a vehicle for the very talented and musical singer/songwriter Josefina Cupido. The heartbeat of the band was driven by Marc Parnell (drums), Steve Lodder (keyboards) and the late John Knox on bass. I played trombone and Josefina sang and played percussion.
Elephant II - The second incarnation
The second incarnation I assembled after Jo left the band; Marc and Steve stayed on board, along with newcomers Kevin Dunford (bass), and Tim Whitehead on saxophone, making us an instrumental group of five. Steve and I wrote fresh compositions for the band, some of which were based on improvisations - most famously Steve's "Downstairs at Lorenzo's". The band was a happy one, and every gig was an Event. Various guest musicians collaborated in addition to the original five, including various guitarists, and Steve Waterman on trumpet.
