Elephant marched through North London the late 70's and into the 80's and had two incarnations.
Elephant I - The first incarnation was assembled by me primarily as a vehicle for the very talented and musical singer/songwriter Josefina Cupido. The heartbeat of the band was driven by Marc Parnell (drums), Steve Lodder (keyboards) and the late John Knox on bass. I played trombone and Josefina sang and played percussion.
Elephant II - The second incarnation
The second incarnation I assembled after Jo left the band; Marc and Steve stayed on board, along with newcomers Kevin Dunford (bass), and Tim Whitehead on saxophone, making us an instrumental group of five. Steve and I wrote fresh compositions for the band, some of which were based on improvisations - most famously Steve's "Downstairs at Lorenzo's". The band was a happy one, and every gig was an Event. Various guest musicians collaborated in addition to the original five, including various guitarists, and Steve Waterman on trumpet.
